How Does This Event Support Local Climate Goals?
ThThe South Burlington Energy Festival directly supports the city’s Climate Action Plan. The plan targets a 60% emissions reduction by 2030 and 95% by 2050. This includes:
- Weatherizing 600 homes each year
- Electrifying 360 housing units annually
- Replacing 75% of gas vehicles with EVs and plug-in hybrids
These are ambitious targets, but they become realistic when residents have access to clear information and local resources. The festival brings those resources together in one place. For example, programs through Efficiency Vermont offer rebates for weatherization projects, efficient appliances, and heating systems. By pairing efficiency upgrades with renewable energy like solar, homeowners can cut both energy use and monthly bills.
Transportation is another major focus. Visitors will be able to test drive EVs and e-bikes, while learning about purchase and lease incentives available through Drive Electric Vermont. These incentives, combined with lower operating costs, make switching to an EV more affordable than many people expect.
Most importantly, the festival provides a space where residents can connect with local experts, see technologies in action, and take small steps that add up to big climate gains. From signing up for a solar consultation to learning about rebates, every action helps move South Burlington closer to its long-term goals.
